The term ‘arthritis’ is coined by the amalgamation of two words- ‘arthron’, which means joint (in Greek), and ‘itis’ that means inflammation. So, arthritis is basically the inflammation of joints. If a person feels stiffness or pain in moving around his/her hands or legs, he/she is likely to have developed arthritis. Arthritis is not just a single disease, but a name given to 100s of disorders pertaining to joints of the human body.
One of the most common forms of arthritis is osteoarthritis, which usually influences elderly people. Nevertheless, arthritis can be prevented not by having a drug, but, by including some superfoods in your daily dietary regimen. Drugs, if taken for a prolonged period of time, can cause some serious side-effects. But, super foods will not just cure arthritis, but many other ailments of your body, keeping you healthy and fit throughout the year.
Below are some healthy and nutritious superfoods that will help you overcome the problem of arthritis:
Apart from making delectable bread slices and ambrosial sundaes, bananas can be put to use in much more healthier way. Bananas are super rich in magnesium and potassium content, which helps to increase the bone density in your body. Besides, magnesium simply alleviates many of the symptoms of arthritis. Many of the patients of arthritis suffer from the problem of bone de-mineralization; therefore, including bananas in your daily diet can help you solve the problem.
Blueberries are loaded with a plethora of antioxidants that help to develop immunity in your body. Research has shown that blueberries can decrease the inflammation of joints and regular consumption has also shown remarkable improvements in swelling. Tofu contains high levels of soy proteins, which is proved to decrease the risk of osteoarthritis. It is best in treating the inflammation of the knee joint. It is a highly popular spice of south Asian countries, especially Indian subcontinent. It is used to add a piquant aroma and color to the dishes. Though, there hasn’t been much evidence about the authenticity of turmeric in curing arthritis, but some studies have shown that a few people have been benefited from the disorder by consuming turmeric in their daily diet.
Several sports coaches advise and recommend athletes to consume pineapple to prevent sports injuries as pineapple is rich in bromelain, which is known to reduce inflammation.
12. Ginger Root
My Grandmother had issues with Arthritis, and she used natural remedies in healthy foods to help alleviate joint pain.
When this alone was not enough to control her, she had flair ups; she used other natural methods.
One of the many she used was Ginger root she would add it to boiling water to soften the root and eat small pieces of it.
Other times she would get the ginger oil and put a few drops in a massage cream then massage it on her painful joints.
This seemed to work very quickly.
13. Epsom Salts
Another effective way she dealt with the inflammation of her joints was to run a warm bath and put a cup of epsom salts in it.
After soaking in the warm epsom salts bath, she emerged feeling as good as new.
At times she would use an ice pack for at least 15 minutes to bring swelling down, placing, an ice pack on swollen joints and then she would relax and sip on a willow tea brewed easily with a willow tea bag and a cup of boiling water, till the pain subsided.
One of the most effective ways to help with Arthritis is to eat a clean, healthy diet and think positively.
Since there is no cure for Arthritis disease managing the inflammation is the best people who suffer from it can do.
As any chronic ailment, there are good and not so good days. My Grandmother found it was helpful to write down what she did each day as far as eating, exercising, and moods. Then she could see what worked best for her and what was not as beneficial.
