DIY: Homemade Shea Body Butter

Our skin changes drastically with weather conditions and shows different results. For example, you witness a lot of oil on your face in summers that you do not want, while in winters, your skin demands for oily supplements as it becomes dry and flaky during winters. It becomes really essential for us to take care of the needs of our skin as without proper care and nourishment, skin can become vulnerable to different skin ailments which, of course, nobody wants.

Winters call for some extra nourishment for your skin. Normal body lotions just cannot help and supply the adequate nourishment and moisture that skin demands for. In such a case, you need something that quenches the thirst of your dried up skin from within, and there cannot be a better option than body butter. So, here is an easy body butter recipe that you can try at home and keep your skin healthy, soft, and supple in winters.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup raw Shea butter
  • 10 drops of any essential oil
  • ½ cup organic olive oil/ almond oil
  • ½ cup organic coconut oil

Shea Butter

Shea is an excellent emollient for skin. It effectively moisturizes dry and flaky skin. Besides, it can also treat the problems of psoriasis, dermatitis, scars, and also wrinkles.

Essential Oil

Essential oils have properties, such as anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-septic etc. Hence, they can protect your skin from harmful bacterial infections and other hazards.

Olive Oil/Almond Oil

Both almond oil and olive oil has soothing properties, and they help in moisturizing the skin and make it look younger and beautiful always. You can use any one of them. They also help in preventing skin irritating conditions, such as eczema, etc.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil acts an antioxidant that helps in regeneration of new skin cells. Besides, it also scrubs off dead skin cells and gives a dazzling glow to the skin. It is also a powerful anti-bacterial and antiseptic.

How to prepare?

Step#1 : Take a double boiler and melt coconut oil and Shea butter, together.

Step#2 : Once coconut oil and Shea butter gets mixed and achieve a smooth consistency, let the mixture cool for 30 minutes.

Step#3 : Now, add olive oil or almond oil along with any essential oil of your choice into the mix and put it in the freezer for about 20-30 minutes till it begins to solidify.

Step#4 : Take it out of the freezer and start whipping it with the help of hand mixer or stand mixer till the Shea butter attains a texture of butter. Take a clean jar and slowly transfer the contents to it. Use it as a normal body lotion for moisturizing your skin efficaciously.

DIY How to Make Whipped Shea Butter at Home

The Seeds from the native African Shea tree are extracted to make shea butter.

Because shea butter has Vitamin A and E, it makes it an excellent source for an anti-inflammatory will also moisturize your skin.

Ingredients needed to make whipped shea butter:

4 ounces shea butter (Raw)

2 tablespoons of any oil base Virgin olive oil

15 droplets Lavender oil 

1 electric whisker and 2 glass containers

You can buy raw or unrefined shea butter from many farmers markets, local food stores also on-line.

mash using fork 

Continue mashing shea butter as you add virgin olive oil

Then using electric whisker whip shea butter mixture at high speed for about 5-8 minutes.

Add lavender essential oil.

Now put the whipped shea buttercream into a clean glass jar and place it in a dry, cool area.

 Use only raw ingredients for best nutritional benefits.

 Since there are no preservatives in homemade shea buttercream, it will not last for a long time, best made in small quantities.

Ingredients needed:

1 tablespoon of raw shea butter 

1 tablespoon of essential Jojoba oil

1 tablespoon of Jasmine base oil

Start by Making in small amounts. 

Put double boiler heat on.

Place shea butter in top boiler fill half of the bottom layer of a boiler with water. 

By melting shea butter first will make it easier to blend essential oils. 

Do not leave on heat for a longer time than needed or shea butter loses it’s healing benefits.

add in jojoba oil and jasmine oil to shea butter using whisk whip

let it off and put the cream into another glass jar

Best to apply shea butter whipped cream on a prewashed face in a circular motion.
