DIY: Olive Oil Hair Treatment

Olive oil is used in all the hair products including masks, shampoos, conditioners, serums, etc. Olive oil is highly nourishing and hydrating in nature. If you use olive oil regularly on your strands, you would not need to head towards salons for hair spa and other expensive hair treatments. Olive oil has natural conditioning properties, and above all, it does not contain any harsh and irritating chemicals which, otherwise, may cause any harm to scalp.

Fatty acids present in olive oil play a pivotal role in protecting your hair and keep them healthy always. Ironing, crimping, and using all sorts of chemical based wax and hair setters could destroy the outer skin of hair and damage them. Olive oil covers the outer layer and gives them strength along with making them softer, shinier, and smoother.

Below are some great benefits of this oil which will make you fall in love with this oil all over again:

  • Dandruff is one of the most common problems faced by almost everyone around us. Dandruff is caused when your scalp becomes dry and flaky. Oiling with olive oil keeps this problem at bay and also discards the existing dandruff.
  • Dry hair becomes brittle and even combing them leads to formation of split ends and, eventually, the problem of hair fall emerges. Olive oil efficaciously tames brittle and dry hair and renders them a seamless shine.
  • Olive oil also softens hair over the time with its therapeutic properties. So, if you have hard and coarse strands use olive oil therapy once or twice a week and see the magic.

Here is the simple yet effective “at home” hair treatment with olive oil that will work wonders for your lifeless and dull hair.

Step 1- Take about two tablespoons of olive oil in a bowl and start massaging it onto your hair and scalp. Massage gently but effectively as massage plays an essential role in stimulating the scalp and improving the circulation, since the oil deeply penetrates into the roots.

You can massage your hair for as long as you would like to deeply penetrate the roots, but of course, the longer you massage the better. One of the best times to massage your scalp would be during the evening hours right before bed. To extend the effects of this olive oil treatment, you can wait until the morning to do step number 3.

Step 2- This next step will help you to lock in the goodness of the olive oil. After massaging your scalp, you will want to take a damp towel that has been soaked in warm water. Wrap your hair into the towel so that your hair is completely covered.

If you are in a rush or do not have much time to spare then you will want to leave the towel on for about half an hour or so. If you want extra penetration, then you will want to take note of what was mentioned in step number one, and leave the towel in until the next morning. If you do this, just substitute the wet towel for a dry one after 30 minutes.

The warm towel is imperative to begin with because the warmth will help open up your roots and willow the olive oil to penetrate under the layers of your skin.

Step 3- Rinse off as usual with a regular shampoo. If oil doesn’t gets washed away at one go, repeat the rinsing process.

It is ok if you do not wash off all of it, even in the second round. If you try this treatment out on a hot and humid day, leaving a bit of the olive oil behind will help fight off some of the frizz that you would normally encounter.
